BIO

Juan Contreras is a Colombian-Canadian visual artist and photographer based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. He studied at Emily Carr University of Art + Design and Langara College, and later completed the PhotoESPAÑA Master's in Photography Projects in Madrid, Spain.

Since 2011, his work has been exhibited in galleries, collective exhibitions, and art spaces in Vancouver and internationally. His photographic practice includes thematic series, street photography, urban imagery, motion studies, and minimalist architectural work.

He is currently an active member of the Vancouver Street Photography Collective,  the Contemporary Art Society of Vancouver, the Vancouver Street Photography Festival Society, the Burnaby Art Council,  and The Polygon Gallery.

​

2011: Solo exhibition “ …And We Call It Home” at the Burnaby Arts Council’s Deer Lake Gallery, connecting urban planning and heritage themes.

2015: Showcased “The Edge of My Brain” at ART! Vancouver art fair booth #238—an interplay of artistry and logic. 

​

2024: Solo painting exhibition, "Endless Motion" at The Gallery George, Vancouver BC.  "Endless Motion" is a series of oil paintings by Contreras that explores the poetry of contemporary dance's kinetic movements.

2018: Solo photography exhibition “Endless Motion” at Vancouver’s Heritage Hall, highlighting contemporary dance scenes.

​

2023: Participated in Punto de Encuentro collective exhibition at Alcobendas Art Center (Madrid), with his Chécheres project—a still-life exploration of chaotic, everyday objects that earned him an Honourable Mention at the International Photo Award (IPA).

2025: Collective Street Photography Exhibition, "Pavement Poetry" at The Gallery George and the second Collective exhibition. "Vancouver Street Fashion". Vancouver Street Photography Collective
